Where to Ice Skate in London this Christmas

A Christmas tradition since the first artificial rink was opened in Chelsea 140 years ago, here are our favourite places to Ice Skate in London.

Now taking to the ice has become as much of a Festive must-do as a visit to Santa’s grotto or a mulled wine at the nearest Christmas market and rinks are popping up all over the city.

We have rounded up our top 3 locations which we will be recommending to our guests this festive season.

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland

For six weeks every year London’s Hyde Park is transformed into a sparkling winter wonderland. With a wealth of magical Christmas activities on offer their is something to suit the whole family. From circus shows to world-class ice dancing and over 100 rides and attractions. The open air ice rink is London’s largest –  skate beneath a canopy of lights as live music plays from the Victorian bandstand throughout the day. Then head over to the German-style Christmas markets to warm up with hot chocolate or mulled wine.

Skate at Somerset House with Fortnum & Mason

Somerset House offers arguably the most stylish skating location. Skate in the stately surrounds by day or night – Skate Lates are new for 2017 and feature a specially created programme of music. Treat yourself at Fortnum’s Lodge and tuck into a host of Skating Extras – mulled wine, mince pies and chocolate or cheese fondue. Don’t miss rink-side pop-up, Fortnum’s Christmas Arcade, to pick up some special gifts.

Natural History Museum

Ice Skating at National History Museum London

Just a short walk from The Levin, the natural History Museum Ice Rink is, we think, London’s most picturesque. Lined with twinkling trees and nestled beneath the museum it has a truly magical feel. Along with a smaller rink for children (or those still finding their feet) there is a cafe bar and and carousel.
